Ten new cottages will be under construction in close proximity to Loop 5 and across the lower parking lot from Loop 3 at Sampson State Park. Construction will take place during the 2016 camping season and will occur mostly on weekdays. Normally associated construction noise and occasional inconveniences are expected during the day. Sampson State Park encompasses nearly 2,000 acres, including just over 5.5 miles of lakefront, providing beautiful scenic views and abundant recreational opportunities. Centrally located in the Finger Lakes Park Region, Sampson State Park slopes gently above the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. Formed over 12,000 years ago, Seneca Lake is the largest and deepest of the Finger Lakes, with charted depths over 630 feet. Seneca Lake is famous for its lake trout fishing, with an annual National Lake Trout Derby held on Memorial Day weekend. facilitiesDescription The parks boasts 245 electric campsites located in five wooded camping loops each with its own shower/restroom facility. There are also 64 non-electric campsites located in an open field with a great view of the lake. Also featured is a 103 slip marina with multiple boat ramps for launching; fresh water filling and sewage dumping stations; restaurant/camp store; picnic areas with grills and tables, and pavilions for group activities. The park's facilities are almost entirely accessible to disabled visitors. Household pets are permitted with restrictions. Firewood and ice are available in the park and nearby.

importantInformation Each year the campground makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice. Looking to book 1 night? If you make your reservation within 7 days of your arrival you can book a 1-night stay online or through the Call Center. The park has 245 electric sites located in loops 1-5 with both 30 and 20 amp service. These sites offer a mixture of open and shaded sites with a comfort station in each loop. Please bring a heavy extension cord. Distances between electric boxes and site pad can be as much as 50 feet. Each site has a gravel pad, fire ring, and one picnic table. Loop 5 is the closest to the lake, with prime sites that have lake views. Sites 301 through 364 (loop 6) are basic non-electric sites in an open field (little to no shade) with a beautiful view of the lake. Sites 59, 60 and 61 are for use by persons with disabilities unless all other sites are occupied. All sites are within walking distance of most park facilities. None of the sites offer hook-ups for sewer or water but there are dump and fresh water fill stations near the park office. There are fountains in each loop for filling water jugs but no hoses may be connected to these faucets. Each site has a place for a primitive campfire and one picnic table (no fire rings). Rustic Cabins: No electric available; One room only; One picnic table and fire ring; Sleeps four; Includes a set of bunk beds and a full size bed. Only one wheeled camping unit and two motor vehicles are allowed per site. Tent campers may place two tents totaling not more than 225 square feet on a site. Boats on trailers may be left on site, if sufficient room is available, or placed in a rented slip at the marina. A maximum of 2 household pets are permitted per site. Pets must be caged or on a leash no more than six feet in length and not left unattended. Pets are permitted in most areas of the park with the exception of the playground, beach area and inside park buildings including comfort stations. Pet owners are required to clean up pet waste. A Mandatory Certificate of Rabies Vaccination for pets is required (metal tags will not be accepted) at the time of check in. Please bring a copy to show office staff. Check-in Procedure: All campers must stop at Park Office before occupying site. Please have the following information ready: Know what site # you are going to; All plate numbers and description of vehicles occupying site; List of everyone that will be on your site. Save time by PRE-REGISTERING with Reserve America before check in! Quiet time at the park is from 10:00 PM to 7:00 Am. Only registered site occupants and vehicles are permitted in the park during this time. The park office normally closes at 8:00pm but staff is available to assist campers in getting to their site after this time. Please be aware that there is a Dog Show at the park from Sept 26 - Oct 2, 2016 during which ALL sites will not be available for reservations. Peak Season: During peak season, a camping party and their equipment may occupy a site for a maximum of 14 continuous days. After which, the camping party and equipment must leave the site and facility for 2 days before registering again for another site. To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window cannot be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

orientationDescription Located in the Finger Lakes region, Sampson State Park was a naval training station from 1942-1946 and an Air Force base until 1960, when the U.S. Air Force transferred the land to the state of New York. Military roads and buildings have been replaced with grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees on flat, rolling woodlands, surrounding ravines. The park's military history has been preserved at at military museum established by Navy and Air Force veterans in the original base brig (jail) facility.
recreationDescription The park offers many recreational opportunities to suit the diverse needs of our guests. Visitors may enjoy swimming at the beach, boating or fishing. The old roads, lake trail and wooded areas offer ample opportunities for bicycling, walking, hiking, geocaching or nature watching. The park also features ball fields, tennis, horseshoe, volleyball and basketball courts, and a large modern playground. Bicycle rental and sports equipment sign out are available. A large indoor recreation hall features video games, billiards, table tennis and foosball. Organized interpretive activities are schedule throughout the season.
